Maharashtra’s Economic Growth Soars Under CM Eknath Shinde’s Leadership

The economic survey of Maharashtra for 2023-24 highlights significant growth under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The state’s economy has shown remarkable improvement compared to the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Economic Growth

The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Maharashtra grew by 9.4% in 2022-23, outpacing Gujarat’s 8% growth. This is a significant increase from the average growth rate of 6.76% during the MVA tenure from 2019 to 2022. The per capita income has also increased, indicating economic recovery.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

Maharashtra has reclaimed its position as the top state for FDI, surpassing Gujarat and Karnataka. This marks a strong performance in attracting foreign investments under the Shinde government.

Entrepreneurship

The state leads in fostering entrepreneurship with 21,105 registered startups, generating 2,37,171 jobs, the highest in India.

Social Welfare

Significant advancements have been made in social welfare initiatives. The Shinde government has issued 6.47 lakh more ration cards since 2022. In agriculture, there has been progress in horticulture and organic farming, with increased areas under fruit crops.

Financial Assistance to Farmers

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, Rs 29,630.24 crore has been deposited into the accounts of 115.42 lakh small and marginal farmers in Maharashtra up to March 2024. Financial assistance to farmers has increased by 39.93% compared to the MVA government.

Infrastructure Development

Infrastructure development, particularly in energy generation, has been a focal point. The installed capacity for energy generation has significantly increased since 2022, with electricity generation rising by 7.7% compared to the previous regime.

Women’s Education

There has been an increased allocation for women’s education. Expenditure on schemes such as the Ahilyabai Holkar scheme has seen a significant rise, with the number of beneficiaries increasing from 7.12 lakh in 2021-22 to 22.33 lakh in 2022-23.
