Indians from all over the country celebrated after the ‘Men in Blue’ clinched victory in a thrilling final match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by beating South Africa by seven runs in Barbados on Saturday.
Celebrations in Major Cities
Visuals from India Gate in Delhi showed fans dancing and chanting ‘India-India’. In Mumbai, people celebrated with great enthusiasm, chanting ‘Jasprit Bumrah Zindabad-Zindabad’ and ‘Jab Tak Suraj Chand Rahega, Jasprit Tera Naam Rahega’.
Similar scenes were seen in Pune, where men, women, and children danced and waved Indian flags. In Raipur, fans burst crackers and danced to celebrate the victory after 13 years in the ICC Championship. One fan praised Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for their performances.
In Ernakulam, Kerala, fans danced after India lifted the second T20 World Cup trophy. Jammu also saw large celebrations with dancing, bursting crackers, and waving flags. Nagpur witnessed a huge crowd chanting ‘India-India’.
Victory Details
In a nail-biting match, India secured their second ICC T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa by seven runs. South Africa, yet to win an ICC title, was left heartbroken. India ended its 11-year ICC trophy drought, winning their first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
In the run chase of 177 runs, South Africa started poorly with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh taking early wickets. Despite counter-attacks by Tristan Stubbs, Quinton de Kock, and Heinrich Klaasen, Hardik Pandya and Bumrah’s crucial wickets in the final overs sealed the victory for India.
