Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently concluded a significant visit to Nigeria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 17 years. During his stay, PM Modi engaged in discussions with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on enhancing cooperation in areas such as defence, technology, health, and education.

The leaders agreed to collaborate on meeting the development aspirations of the Global South. India also announced the provision of 20 tons of humanitarian aid to support Nigeria’s flood relief efforts.
Memoranda of Understanding
India and Nigeria signed agreements on Cultural Exchange Programmes, Customs Cooperation, and Survey Cooperation. PM Modi was accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other officials.
Honors and Recognition
PM Modi was awarded Nigeria’s highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger. He expressed gratitude and dedicated the honor to the people of India and the friendship between the two nations.

Following his visit to Nigeria, PM Modi traveled to Brazil to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, where he will participate as a Troika member, focusing on Global South priorities.
