Tragic Fire at Jhansi Medical College
A devastating fire at the Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has claimed the lives of ten newborns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as “heart-wrenching,” and extended his condolences to the grieving families. He assured that relief and rescue operations are underway under the supervision of the Uttar Pradesh government.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced financial assistance of Rs five lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He has also ordered a report on the incident within 12 hours.
The fire, believed to have started from a short circuit in an oxygen concentrator, spread rapidly in the NICU, where over 50 newborns were being treated. Families are desperately seeking answers and accountability as they search for their missing children.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak mentioned that DNA tests might be conducted to identify three of the deceased infants. President Droupadi Murmu and other leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav and Mallikarjun Kharge, have expressed their condolences and called for accountability.
