Ajit Pawar Defends Nawab Malik’s Candidacy Amid Allegations

Ajit Pawar, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has defended his decision to offer a ticket to Nawab Malik for the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar seat. Despite serious allegations against Malik, who was arrested in 2022 for alleged links with Dawood Ibrahim’s associates, Pawar emphasized that no court has proven these claims. He compared Malik’s situation to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who faced accusations but was not legally convicted. Pawar stressed the importance of evidence in a democracy, stating, “Allegations are easy to make, but they must be proven in court.”

Pawar also addressed accusations from the Maha Vikas Aghadi that the Mahayuti government is influenced by industrialists like Adani. He refuted these claims, asserting that industries in Maharashtra operate independently from the government. He highlighted that all Chief Ministers, regardless of party, have worked with industrialists without undue influence.

Additionally, Pawar explained the absence of some NCP candidates at Prime Minister Modi’s rally in Mumbai, attributing it to scheduling conflicts with another rally in Pune.
