Dominica Honors PM Narendra Modi for Support During COVID-19

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Dominica recognized India’s support in healthcare, education, and digital sectors, especially the supply of COVID-19 vaccines. Jaishankar shared on X, “An apt recognition for PM @narendramodi’s leadership and solidarity with the Global South.”

Dominica will bestow its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, upon PM Modi for his contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening ties between India and Dominica. Sylvanie Burton, President of Dominica, will confer the award at the India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana, from November 19 to 21, 2024.

In February 2021, India gifted Dominica 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, aiding Dominica and its Caribbean neighbors. The award also acknowledges India’s support in healthcare, education, and IT under Modi’s leadership, and his role in promoting climate resilience and sustainable development globally.

Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, expressed gratitude for Modi’s solidarity during the global health crisis, stating, “Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica.” Both Sylvanie Burton and Roosevelt Skerrit will attend the India-CARICOM Summit to discuss shared priorities and cooperation between India and CARICOM member states.
