4th National Finswimming Championship 2024 in New Delhi
The Underwater Sports Federation Of India (USFI), in collaboration with the Physical Education Foundation of India, is set to host the 4th National Finswimming Championship. This event will take place at the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex in New Delhi from November 15 to 17.
Event Details
Dr Tapan Panigrahi, Secretary of USFI and a Dronacharya Awardee, shared that this championship will see participation from 28 state units and over 400 districts across India. More than 1500 participants will compete in 186 events, vying for 558 medal positions across various age categories and genders.
About Finswimming
Finswimming is a modern version of competitive swimming gaining popularity worldwide. In India, USFI is promoting this sport as an excellent platform for youth to showcase their potential. It complements existing competitive swimming and can be integrated into strategic training plans.
Future Prospects
There are ongoing efforts to include Finswimming as an Olympic event. USFI is committed to developing this sport seriously, unlike other Olympic sports.
Past Championships
The first National Finswimming Championship was held in Ponda, Goa, in 2021, with 766 athletes from 21 states. The second championship in 2022 took place in Pune, with 981 swimmers. The third championship in 2023 saw a record participation of nearly 1200 swimmers.
