Sachin Pilot Confident of Congress Victory in Rajasthan Bypolls

As voting takes place for the Jharkhand Assembly elections and by-elections across 10 states, Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed confidence in Congress winning all seats in the Rajasthan Assembly bypolls. He stated, “Today is a polling day. The first phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections and bypolls at several places are being conducted. The polling is also being done at Wayanad. I hope that our candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will register a big win. She will be a strong voice in the Parliament. We will win all the seats in Rajasthan Assembly bypolls.”

He further commented on the state government’s performance, saying, “The state government has been unable to deliver anything in Rajasthan. People are tired. People want to send a message.”

Reactions to Waqf (Amendment) Bill

Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Pilot criticized the BJP’s approach, stating, “They (the centre) introduced the bill which was earlier withdrawn. Then, the JPC was formed. The work of Parliament is not like wrestling. It is done after holding discussions. Many leaders and parties do not agree to the provisions in the bill. They (BJP) cannot rule as per their wish. This time, they are not elected with a complete majority.”

Details of the Bypolls

The bypolls in Rajasthan are being held in seven seats: Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Deoli-Uniara, Khinwsar, Chorasi, Salumbar, and Ramgarh, with results expected on November 20. These bypolls were necessitated after two MLAs passed away and five others were elected to the Lok Sabha. Of these seven seats, five were previously held by Congress and its allies, while the BJP and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party held one each.

Jharkhand and Other State Elections

Voting for the first phase of the Jharkhand assembly elections began with 43 out of 81 seats in contention. A voter turnout of 13.04% was recorded by 9 am. Additionally, by-elections for 31 assembly seats across 10 states, including the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, are underway. In Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Congress is contesting against Navya Haridas from BJP and Sathyan Mokeri from the Left alliance.
