In Iksan City, South Korea, Indian badminton player Kiran George has made it to the semifinals of the Korea Masters tournament. On Friday, he achieved a decisive victory over Japan’s Takuma Obayashi with scores of 21-14, 21-16 in the men’s singles event.

Ranked 41st in the world by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the 24-year-old George took just 39 minutes to defeat the 34th-ranked Obayashi in the quarterfinals of this BWF Super 300 tournament. George started strong, quickly establishing a 5-1 lead and maintaining his advantage to win the first game. The second game was more competitive, with both players exchanging leads, but George secured the final four points to win the match.

This marks George’s first semifinal appearance of the year. In the previous round, he surprised everyone by defeating third-seed Chi Yu Jen from Chinese Taipei. George is set to face Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, the Paris Olympics 2024 silver medallist and top seed, in the semifinals on Saturday.
