FIR Against BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for False Claim on Farmer’s Suicide in Karnataka

In Haveri, Karnataka, an FIR has been filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejasvi Surya. He falsely claimed that a farmer, Rudrappa Channappa Balikai, died by suicide after his land was taken by the Waqf board. Surya’s post on social media blamed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan for the situation. However, the police clarified that the farmer’s suicide was due to loan and crop loss, not land issues. Surya has since deleted the post and stated he will not rely on the news source again.

The controversy over Waqf land in Karnataka has been growing. Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill, visited the state to meet with farmers. He plans to present a fact-finding report in the winter session of Parliament. The BJP claims that Waqf designations were added to land records without proper notification. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered officials to stop issuing notices to farmers.
