BJP MLA Basanagouda R Patil Calls for Nationalization of Waqf Properties
Amid Ongoing Land Dispute in Karnataka
In Vijaypura, Karnataka, BJP MLA Basanagouda R Patil has called for the nationalization of Waqf properties, declaring them as national property. This demand was made during a meeting with Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) Chairman Jagdambika Pal. Patil highlighted concerns from 10 to 15 thousand farmers and public representatives about land allegedly grabbed by Siddaramaiah.
Patil stated, “Today, the chairman of JPC, Jagdambika Pal, and committee member Tejasvi Surya came to Vijaypura. Around 10 to 15 thousand farmers and public representatives told them about the way the lakhs of acres of land of the Hindus and farmers were grabbed by Siddaramaiah. We also demanded that Waqf’s property should be nationalized and declared as a national property.”
JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal assured the farmers and representatives that their demands would be addressed. He promised that they would be invited to Delhi to speak at a committee meeting.
Controversy Over Committee’s Composition
State Minister and Congress leader Priyank Kharge criticized the committee, calling it a “BJP-sponsored committee.” He questioned the absence of other committee members, stating, “If it’s a JPC, then where are the other committee members? It is a BJP committee.”
JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal, accompanied by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, met with farmers’ organizations in Hubballi, Karnataka. Pal announced that a fact-finding report would be presented in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
The BJP has accused that Waqf designations were added to land records for 44 properties in Vijayapura district without proper notification. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed officials to halt and withdraw notices issued to farmers.
