UP Warriorz Announce Retained Players for 2025 WPL
The UP Warriorz, a team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), have announced their list of retained players for the 2025 season. The team will continue to be led by their captain, Alyssa Healy, a renowned Australian cricketer. Other key players retained include Australian star Grace Harris, Indian talents Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu.
Additional players on the retained list are Australian Tahlia McGrath, England’s spinner Sophie Ecclestone, and Indian players Anjali Sarvani, Kiran Navgire, Gouher Sultana, Poonam Khemnar, Saima Thakor, Shweta Sehrawat, Uma Chetry, and Vrinda Dinesh.
In the previous season, Deepti Sharma was a standout performer with 295 runs and 10 wickets in eight matches. Grace Harris contributed 188 runs and four wickets, while Alyssa Healy scored 175 runs. Sophie Ecclestone was also impressive with 11 wickets.
Despite strong performances, UP Warriorz have yet to win a WPL title. In the inaugural 2023 season, they finished third and reached the playoffs but were defeated by Mumbai Indians. In the following season, they placed fourth, missing out on playoff qualification.
The dates for the 2025 WPL auction and season are yet to be announced. The 2024 season was won by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who defeated Delhi Capitals.
