The Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, is participating in the 10th Conference of G20 Parliaments in Brasilia, Brazil. On November 6, 2024, the delegation met with the President of the Senate of the Brazilian Parliament. They discussed the long-standing friendship and cooperation between India and Brazil, focusing on democracy, pluralism, and multiculturalism. Both countries emphasized their commitment to sustainable development, trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.

Harivansh’s Address on Climate Justice

During the conference, Harivansh spoke on “Promoting climate justice and sustainable development from a gender and race perspective.” He highlighted India’s progress on sustainable development goals during its G20 presidency and emphasized the shift from women’s development to women-led development. He introduced the Namo Drone Didi program, which provides drones to 15,000 self-help groups for agricultural use, empowering rural women with technology. Harivansh also discussed India’s climate action strategy, known as Panchamrit, and the country’s efforts to balance growth with environmental sustainability.

Manoj Kumar Jha on Gender and Race Inequality

MP Rajya Sabha Manoj Kumar Jha addressed the conference on “Fighting Gender and Race Inequality and Promoting Women’s Economic Autonomy.” He highlighted India’s legal framework to eliminate discrimination against women and the creation of a Working Group on the Empowerment of Women during India’s G20 presidency. Jha mentioned several schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Stand Up India, Start-Up India, and the National Skill Development Mission, which have supported women’s workforce participation and financial independence. He also noted the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam by the Indian Parliament.
