Jairam Ramesh Criticizes Devendra Fadnavis Over Remarks on Rahul Gandhi and the Constitution
In New Delhi, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed his disapproval of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s comments about Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Ramesh suggested that Fadnavis should think before speaking. He accused Fadnavis of misunderstanding the ‘red book’ shown by Gandhi, which is actually the Constitution of India, crafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Ramesh highlighted that the Constitution was criticized by the RSS in 1949 for not being inspired by Manusmriti. He also noted that the book includes a Foreword by K.K. Venugopal, a respected legal figure and former Attorney General of India. Ramesh further mentioned that the term ‘Urban Naxals’ is not officially used by the Government of India, as stated by the Union Home Ministry in 2020 and 2022. Earlier, Fadnavis accused Gandhi of disrespecting the Constitution during a ‘Samvidhan Sammelan’ in Maharashtra, claiming Gandhi sought support from ‘urban naxals.’ The political tension arises as Maharashtra prepares for elections on November 20, with results expected on November 23.
