Royal Families Criticize Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on Historical Maharajas

In New Delhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faced backlash from royal descendants across India for his comments about their ancestors. In an editorial, Gandhi claimed that the East India Company manipulated “pliant Maharajas” to control India. He argued that India’s freedom was lost to a corporation, not another nation.

Reactions from Royal Descendants

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, from the former ruling family of Gwalior, criticized Gandhi, urging him to honor true Indian heroes like Mahadji Scindia and others who fought for freedom. Scindia accused Gandhi of disrespecting Bharat Mata and being out of touch with India’s history.

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, related to the last Maharaja of Jaipur, condemned Gandhi’s statements. She emphasized the sacrifices made by royal families for a united India and dismissed Gandhi’s claims as baseless.

Chaitanya Raj Singh, from the former Jaisalmer royal family, also rejected Gandhi’s allegations. He highlighted the royal families’ dedication to dharma and their enduring respect across India.

Vishvaraj Singh, a descendant of Maharana Pratap, questioned whether Gandhi’s remarks were due to ignorance or a deliberate attempt to misrepresent history.
