In New Delhi, a report by SBI reveals that the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) amount to women through various schemes has surpassed Rs 2 trillion across multiple states. As elections approach, political parties are focusing on women-centric initiatives, promising direct cash transfers ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 per month.

The report highlights that these schemes are implemented by various state governments. Across eight states, an estimated Rs 2.11 lakh crore is being distributed under these schemes, accounting for about 3 to 11 percent of the respective state’s revenue receipts. The positive impact of these schemes is expected to boost consumption and economic spending, especially among low-income families.

Key Schemes and Allocations

In Karnataka, the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme provides Rs 2,000 per month to the female head of the family, with a budget of Rs 28,608 crore. Maharashtra’s ‘Mukhya Mantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ offers Rs 1,500 per month to eligible women aged 21-60 years, with Rs 46,000 crore allocated for the program. Madhya Pradesh’s ‘Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana’ has a budget of Rs 18,984 crore, providing Rs 1,250 per month to eligible women. Odisha’s Subhadra Yojana offers Rs 50,000 over five years to eligible women aged 21-60 years, with Rs 10,000 crore set aside for the scheme.

These initiatives reflect a growing trend of state-level interventions aimed at empowering women economically and encouraging voter engagement through women-centric schemes.
