BR Naidu Becomes 54th Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Amid Prasadam Controversy

BR Naidu Takes Oath as TTD Chairman

BR Naidu was sworn in as the 54th Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) at the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple. The oath was administered by TTD Executive Officer Shyamala Rao. Naidu first visited Varaha Swamy and then entered the temple through Vaikuntham Queue Complex 1. After his darshan of Lord Venkateswara, he received blessings from priests with Vedic chants at the Ranganayakula Mandapam.

Controversy Over Tirupati Prasadam

Naidu’s appointment follows a controversy regarding the Tirupati Prasadam. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu alleged that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP government. In response, the Supreme Court formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate these claims.

Supreme Court’s Action

The Supreme Court, led by Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, emphasized the importance of the sentiments of devotees worldwide. To ensure an unbiased investigation, the court established a new SIT, replacing the one set up by the state government. This SIT will include officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Andhra Pradesh state police, and a senior official from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), all supervised by the CBI director.
