Beloved Folk Singer Sharda Sinha Passes Away

On a somber Tuesday, Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the renowned singer Sharda Sinha, describing it as an “irreparable loss” to the music world. Sharda Sinha, celebrated as the ‘Bihar Kokila,’ was known for her soulful folk songs in Maithili, Bajjika, Bhojpuri, and Hindi, and was honored with the Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Bhushan in 2018.

Her songs, especially those for the Chhath Puja festival, are cherished across India. The Chief Minister prayed for her soul’s peace and strength for her family and fans. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha echoed these sentiments, highlighting her impact on Bihar’s folk culture and the Chhath Puja festival.

JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar noted the poignant timing of her passing during the Chhath festival. Sharda Sinha succumbed to refractory shock due to septicaemia, a complication of her battle with multiple myeloma, at AIIMS, Delhi. Her legacy as a cultural ambassador of Bihar’s traditional music endures.
