Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF Prepare for Amarnath Yatra with Mock Drill

On June 26, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), conducted a mock security drill in the Pahalgam area. This was done in preparation for the Amarnath Yatra, an important annual pilgrimage for Hindus, which will start on June 29 and end on August 19.

Preparations in Srinagar

District Magistrate Srinagar, Dr. Bilal M Bhat, inspected the preparations at the Yatra Base Camp in Srinagar. He mentioned that a transit camp in Pantha Chowk has been set up to accommodate around 5000 devotees. Dr. Bhat said, “Complete arrangements for water, electricity, and langar have been made. Our entire team and administration are engaged to ensure the comfort of the pilgrims.”

Offline Registrations

Offline registrations for the Amarnath Yatra have begun. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) South Jammu, Manu Hansa, stated that registrations are being done based on Aadhar Cards, and tokens are being issued at three centers: Vaishnavi Dham, Mahajan Hall, and Panchayat Bhavan.

About the Amarnath Yatra

The Amarnath Yatra involves a challenging trek to the Amarnath cave shrine, located in a narrow gorge at the end of Lidder Valley. The shrine stands at 3,888 meters, 46 km from Pahalgam and 14 km from Baltal. The journey usually starts at Chandanwari and takes five days to complete. The holy cave is considered the abode of Lord Shiva, enshrined in the form of an ice lingam.
