Delhi Mayor and Deputy Mayor Election Scheduled
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced that the election for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on November 14 at the Aruna Asaf Ali Sabhagar, Civic Centre, New Delhi. This election was initially planned for April but was postponed.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for conducting what she calls an “illegal, unconstitutional, and undemocratic” MCD standing committee election. She argues that only the Mayor has the authority to call such elections under the Municipal Corporation Act of 1957.
The BJP’s Sunder Singh won the recent standing committee election, which was boycotted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The election was held under Additional Commissioner Jitendra Yadav, in the absence of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Atishi has announced plans to challenge the election in the Supreme Court, asserting that the power to call meetings lies solely with the Mayor. Mayor Shelly Oberoi also criticized the Commissioner’s order, labeling the election as “illegal and unconstitutional.”
