Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole’s Appeal to Election Commission
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding DGP Rashmi Shukla’s recent transfer. Patole thanked the ECI for their quick action in removing Shukla from her position, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in elections.
Patole highlighted that Shukla’s service extension was specifically for her role as Director General of Police and should not apply to any other position. He requested the ECI to ensure Shukla is not appointed elsewhere, reinforcing public trust in the institution.
This is not Patole’s first communication on the matter. He previously wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accusing Shukla of bias against opposition parties like Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP(SP). Patole noted an increase in political violence against opposition leaders in Maharashtra.
In earlier letters, Patole mentioned that while the DGP of Jharkhand was removed after the Model Code of Conduct was enforced, Shukla was exempted. He accused her of instructing police to file false cases against opposition leaders and called for her dismissal to ensure fair elections.
