Odisha Celebrates Harekrushna Mahatab’s 125th Birth Anniversary
The Odisha government is gearing up for a year-long celebration to honor the 125th birth anniversary of Harekrushna Mahatab, the first Chief Minister of Odisha. A meeting was held by Chief Minister Charan Majhi, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other officials, to plan the events.
Who Was Harekrushna Mahatab?
Born on November 21, 1899, and passing away on January 2, 1987, Mahatab was a freedom fighter known as “Utkal Keshari.” He played a crucial role in the formation of modern Odisha and served as Chief Minister from 1946-1950 and 1956-1960.
Celebration Plans
From November 21 to 23, a grand celebration will take place in Bhubaneswar. The government plans to build a memorial museum and a statue at Mahatab’s birthplace in Agarpada, Bhadrak district. A biographical film will also be produced and shown in educational institutions.
