In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the Field Director of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve has been suspended following the death of ten elephants. This decision was made by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during a meeting with forest department officials. The Chief Minister clarified that there is no evidence of pesticide use on crops, which was initially suspected. He stated, “According to the preliminary information, we have not received any evidence regarding the use of pesticides on the crops. The postmortem report will be sent to us in 2-3 days. The Bandhavgarh Field Director has been suspended.”

Additionally, the ex-gratia compensation for the family of a man who died in a wild elephant attack near the reserve has been increased from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Earlier, Minister of State for Forest and Environment Dileep Ahirwar, along with two senior forest officers, visited the reserve to investigate the elephant deaths. Minister Ahirwar, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Ashok Barnwal, and the state’s Head of Forest Force (HOFF) Aseem Shrivastava collected information and will report to CM Yadav. The Union Environment Ministry has also formed a team to investigate the deaths.
