Kalpana Soren Defends Hemant Soren Amid Age Controversy

In Ranchi, Jharkhand, Kalpana Soren, wife of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and JMM MLA, addressed the ongoing controversy regarding her husband’s age. She questioned the importance of age in politics and accused the BJP of being fearful of Hemant Soren, suggesting they lack substantial issues to discuss.

Kalpana Soren stated, “Has age become such a major factor?… I think if you (BJP) are so scared of Hemant Soren, you are not getting any topic…You have seen your future and your fear says that you have been so scared of Hemant Soren ever since you sent him to jail and he came out…Today, the people of Jharkhand trust Hemant Soren…”

Criticism from BJP Leaders

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also BJP co-in-charge for Jharkhand Assembly elections, criticized the JMM, calling their system “fake” and accusing them of inflating ages in affidavits. He warned that if the JMM remains in power, safety in the state would be compromised.

Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, pointed out inconsistencies in Hemant Soren’s age on nomination papers, claiming Soren aged seven years in five. Seth urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to investigate, labeling the discrepancy as fraud and deceit.

Seth remarked, “We guarantee that the information we provide on nomination papers is accurate. In 2019, Hemant Soren declared his date of birth on his nomination papers, yet in 2024, he appears to have aged by seven years in just five. What magic is this? Aisa jaadu ki Devta bhi hairaan hai (such magic, even gods astonished).”

He further alleged that this discrepancy amounts to fraud and deceit against the Election Commission. Seth called for a thorough investigation by the ECI to determine the source of the discrepancy, emphasizing the BJP’s trust in the ECI and the Constitution.
