Doctor Nikhil Modi Advises Delhi Residents on Coping with Post-Diwali Pollution

As pollution levels rise in New Delhi following the festive season, Dr. Nikhil Modi, a senior consultant at Apollo Hospital, has advised residents to avoid going out during high-pollution hours. He warns of increased ailments such as chest infections and breathing difficulties due to poor air quality.

Health Concerns Due to Pollution

Dr. Modi noted that many patients are experiencing symptoms like watery eyes, runny nose, cough, and difficulty in breathing. He emphasized the importance of minimizing exposure to pollution and maintaining a diet rich in antioxidants to help mitigate health issues.

Current Air Quality Situation

The Central Pollution Control Board reported that Delhi’s air quality has fallen into the ‘very poor’ category, with areas like Anand Vihar and Jahangirpuri recording AQI levels over 350. This has raised significant health concerns, especially for children and the elderly.

Public Concerns

Residents, including Manish from Delhi, have expressed worries about the impact of pollution on vulnerable groups, particularly during Diwali when fireworks contribute to the problem. The burning of crop residue in nearby states also exacerbates the situation.
