US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin recently engaged in a conversation with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant to address rising tensions in the Middle East. The discussion emphasized the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security, especially against threats from Iran and its proxies.

In a social media post, Austin stated, “I spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant today to discuss opportunities for regional de-escalation. I reaffirmed that the United States remains fully prepared to defend US personnel, Israel, and partners across the region against threats from Iran and Iran-backed proxies.”

Austin also highlighted the US commitment to a peaceful resolution in Lebanon, aiming for the safe return of Lebanese and Israeli civilians to their homes. He reviewed Israel’s efforts to improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza and discussed prospects for a hostage release and ceasefire deal.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s rocket attacks in northern Israel have resulted in the deaths of seven people, marking a deadly day for Israeli civilians. The attacks occurred near Metula and Haifa, with rockets hitting agricultural fields. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the attacks, stating, “Hezbollah rockets killed 7 innocent civilians inside Israel today. We will not let Hezbollah’s deadly attacks go unanswered.”

The victims were agricultural workers, including one Israeli citizen and several foreign nationals.
