Andhra Pradesh Launches Free Cooking Gas Cylinder Scheme
Introduction
The government of Andhra Pradesh has launched a new initiative to provide free cooking gas cylinders to eligible women in the state. This scheme is part of the ‘Super Six’ promises made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Details of the Scheme
Under the Deepam-2 scheme, the state will supply three free cooking gas cylinders per year to eligible women. The scheme was officially implemented with the release of funds by the state government.
Funding and Implementation
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu handed over funds to representatives from Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Indian Oil Corporation. The total annual expenditure for the scheme is estimated at Rs 2,684 crore. On Wednesday, cheques amounting to Rs 894 crore were given to petroleum company representatives to cover the current month’s subsidy.
Beneficiary Details
Eligible beneficiaries can now book their cylinders, with the scheme having come into effect on Tuesday. An amount of Rs 876, excluding a Central subsidy of Rs 25, will be credited to each beneficiary’s account within 48 hours of booking. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar and several beneficiaries, including Balamma from Tenali, Bhavani from Eluru, and Mangatayaru from Vijayawada, attended the event.
