Farooq Abdullah Comments on Akhnoor Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir
In Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah addressed the recent encounter in Akhnoor, stating that such incidents are not new to the region. He remarked, “Encounters keep taking place, there is nothing new in this. Terrorists keep coming and we will keep killing them.”
Abdullah also extended Diwali greetings, expressing hope that Maa Lakshmi would bless the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He encouraged everyone to celebrate the festival, calling it a significant occasion.
Operation Asan: A Counter-Offensive
The encounter was part of Operation Asan, a counter-offensive by Indian security forces following a terrorist attack on an Army convoy in the Battal area on October 28. During the operation, security forces neutralized three terrorists in Akhnoor.
The terrorists had fired on an Army ambulance, leading to a swift response from the security forces. The area was sealed off, and a coordinated search was conducted by Jammu and Kashmir police and Indian security forces. The operation was led by the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, which engaged the terrorists after continuous surveillance.
Significant Victory and Sacrifice
The White Knight Corps reported a significant victory after an intense firefight. War-like stores were recovered from the site, which are crucial for securing the area. Tragically, Phantom, a Belgian Malinois dog from the Indian Army’s canine unit, was killed during the operation. Phantom, who joined the Army in August 2022, was instrumental in advancing towards the enemy position.
