Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth expressed his sympathy for Ruturaj Gaikwad after the batter was left out of India’s T20I squad for the South Africa tour and the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Srikkanth voiced his concerns on his YouTube channel, questioning the selection committee’s plans for Gaikwad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Performance

Gaikwad has been a standout performer in T20I cricket, scoring 633 runs in 20 innings with an average of 39.56 and a strike rate of 143.53. He has also excelled in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings, amassing 583 runs in 14 matches this season. In the Ranji Trophy, he has scored 231 runs in three innings for Maharashtra.

Selection Decisions

Despite Gaikwad’s impressive record, Abhimanyu Easwaran was chosen as a backup opener for Rohit Sharma. Easwaran has had a strong domestic season, scoring 632 runs in eight innings. Srikkanth acknowledged Easwaran’s performance but questioned the decision to overlook Gaikwad.

Upcoming Border-Gavaskar Series

The Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia will begin on November 22 in Perth. The series will include five Tests, with matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
