Ajit Pawar and Yugendra Pawar Face Off in Baramati Assembly Election

In Baramati, Maharashtra, a significant political contest is unfolding as Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister and NCP candidate, prepares to file his nomination. Ajit Pawar, confident of his support, held a roadshow and expressed his belief that the people of Baramati will elect him once again. He stated, “Everyone has the right to contest. Whenever any candidate is fielded against me, I take them as a strong candidate and campaign accordingly.”

Interestingly, Ajit Pawar’s nephew, Yugendra Pawar, is also contesting from the same constituency as the NCP-SP candidate. This sets the stage for another Pawar versus Pawar contest, reminiscent of the Lok Sabha elections where Supriya Sule, daughter of Sharad Pawar, defeated Sunetra Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s wife.

Yugendra Pawar expressed his feelings about contesting against his uncle, saying, “I feel it is quite sad, quite unfortunate that this had to come in the family.” Despite the family split, Yugendra remains loyal to Sharad Pawar, the NCP founder and family patriarch, believing that the people of Baramati will support him.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. In previous elections, the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Congress have been key players, with varying seat wins in 2019 and 2014.
