Bilawal Bhutto and PM Shehbaz Sharif Celebrate 26th Constitutional Amendment in Pakistan
In Lahore, Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to celebrate the approval of the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Meanwhile, a lawyer from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party filed a petition in the Sindh High Court challenging the amendment. Advocate Ashraf Samo argued that it poses a “direct attack” on the judiciary, a fundamental state pillar. The petition seeks to protect the judiciary’s independence as outlined in Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution, specifically Article 199, and requests a full bench hearing to safeguard fundamental rights.
