Dubai Culture Celebrates Emirati Artists at Venice Biennale
Dubai Culture has successfully wrapped up its ‘Emirati Creatives in Venice Programme,’ which aimed to showcase Emirati talent at the 60th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. The event, themed ‘Foreigners Everywhere,’ was supported by the Sikka Platform and highlighted Dubai Culture’s dedication to fostering local talent and connecting them with the global arts community.
Emirati Artists’ Cultural Journey
Ten Emirati artists, including Anood Al Khoori and Duha Al Hallami, embarked on a cultural journey to explore diverse artistic practices at the Venice Biennale. They visited the UAE Pavilion to experience Abdulla Al Saadi’s exhibit, ‘Sites of Memory, Sites of Amnesia,’ which reflects his 40-year creative journey through the UAE’s natural heritage.
Exploring Venice’s Cultural Heritage
The artists explored Venice’s rich cultural sites, such as the Doge’s Palace and the Rubelli Foundation. They also visited the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and the Vatican Chapels Pavilion, gaining insights into the relationship between art and environment.
Engagement with Art Experts
During their visit, the artists met with design experts and participated in workshops, including one by Fernando Masone on blending traditional and modern art techniques. They also met artist Fabrizio Plessi, who emphasized storytelling and technology in art.
Support from Dubai Culture
Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture, visited the UAE Pavilion to support Emirati cultural initiatives. She explored various international pavilions and met with Italian cultural directors to discuss collaboration. Badri praised the Emirati artists for their innovative ideas and reiterated Dubai Culture’s commitment to nurturing local talent.
