Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Border Vigilance and State Initiatives
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the importance of vigilance against the infiltration of Rohingya Muslims through the Indo-Bangladesh border. In the past two months, 138 infiltrators have been detected, with almost all being Rohingya Muslims. Contrary to expectations, Hindu Bengalis are not crossing into India due to Bangladesh’s instability.
CM Sarma stressed the need for all border states to work closely with the Border Security Force (BSF) to address this issue. He mentioned that Assam and Tripura are actively detecting infiltrators and encouraged West Bengal to join these efforts for a systematic approach.
State Initiatives
In addition to border security, CM Sarma announced a 3% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, raising it from 50% to 53% of their basic salary. This increase is retroactively effective from July and is considered a Diwali gift from the government. Employees will receive their DA arrears from December to March, with 25% of the amount provided each month.
The Assam Cabinet also decided to celebrate Bhasha Gaurav Saptah from November 3 to November 9, 2024, to honor the Assamese language’s recent recognition as a classical language by the Union Cabinet.
