EAM Jaishankar Celebrates Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ 45th Independence Day

India’s External Affairs Minister Celebrates Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ Independence

On October 27, India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, extended warm wishes to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on their 45th Independence Day. He expressed appreciation for the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Joint Ministerial Meeting Participation

Jaishankar highlighted the participation of India and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the first-ever Joint Ministerial Meeting of the L-69 and C-10 groupings of nations. This meeting took place during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024.

Call for United Nations Security Council Reform

During the meeting, Jaishankar emphasized the need for reform in the United Nations Security Council’s membership, advocating for both permanent and non-permanent categories. He called for Text Based Negotiations in the Intergovernmental Negotiations process to achieve concrete outcomes within a fixed timeframe.

The meeting was chaired by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister, Ralph E Gonsalves, who was praised for his leadership. The ministers reiterated the importance of making the Security Council more representative, transparent, efficient, effective, democratic, and accountable.
