CBIC and Delhi Customs Destroy Illegal Goods
Massive Destruction of Seized Items
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) along with the Delhi Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate and Customs (Airport and General) Commissionerate have jointly destroyed a large quantity of illegal goods. This includes around 49 lakh foreign cigarettes, approximately 73 kilograms of drugs, gutkha, pan masala, and e-cigarettes.
Value and Legal Violations
The destroyed items were valued at approximately Rs 460 crores. They were seized for violating the Customs Act, the NDPS Act, and the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act.
Safe Destruction Process
The destruction took place on a Friday at a waste management facility in Delhi. It was conducted in a safe and non-hazardous manner. The event was attended by Harbinder Kaur Prasad, Commissioner of Delhi Customs Preventive Commissionerate, and Vishal Pal Singh, Commissioner of Customs (Airport and General) Commissionerate.
