Ensuring Smooth Travel During Diwali and Chhath Puja

In New Delhi, Northern Railway has announced special arrangements for the festive season to ensure a comfortable journey for passengers. General Manager Ashok Kumar Verma shared details in a press conference about the special trains running during Diwali and Chhath Puja.

Special Train Services

Northern Railway has planned 3144 trips from October 1 to November 30, 2024. About 85% of these trains will head east towards states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam. During a thirteen-day period, 65 extra trains will operate daily from Delhi, providing 1.20 lakh additional berths.

Connecting Major Destinations

Special trains will connect key destinations such as Patna, Danapur, Muzaffarpur, and more. From October 26 to November 7, 49 extra coaches will be added to important trains, offering a total of 1,70,434 extra berths, an increase from last year’s 1,48,750.

Additional Capacity for Unreserved Passengers

Approximately 54,000 additional unreserved passenger capacities will be available, compared to 41,000 last year. Unannounced special trains will also be run as needed.

Berths -: Berths are the sleeping spaces available in trains for passengers to rest during their journey. They are like small beds in the train compartments.

Unreserved Passengers -: Unreserved passengers are those who travel without a reserved seat or berth. They usually travel in general compartments where seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
