Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar Discusses Baramulla Attack and India-China Border Agreement
In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, addressed the media following a terrorist attack in Baramulla. The attack resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and two civilian porters, with one soldier and one porter injured. General Kumar stated that the Army is reassessing its strategies due to suspected cross-border support for the attackers.
Regarding India and China’s border agreement, General Kumar mentioned that both countries have reached a consensus on patrolling and grazing in traditional areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This agreement aims to restore the ground situation based on equal and mutual security principles. The disengagement of troops has begun at two friction points in Demchok and Depsang Plains in Eastern Ladakh.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, confirmed that the agreement with China will restore the LAC situation to its state before May 2020, ending a military standoff that began in 2020 due to Chinese military actions.
