Devendra Fadnavis Files Nomination for Nagpur South-West Assembly Seat
On Friday, Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), filed his nomination for the Nagpur South-West Assembly seat. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP’s national president JP Nadda, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support in granting him a ticket for the sixth time.
Fadnavis stated, “I am sure that people will bless me. With the works done by the Mahayuti government, we will form the government again in the state. Our only aim is to continue the progress we have brought to Maharashtra.”
He criticized the Congress party, accusing them of opposing reservation and the ideals of Ambedkar. Fadnavis mentioned, “Rahul Gandhi has spoken against reservation abroad. Nehru ji, Indira ji have done the same. Nana Patole has rendered support to Rahul Gandhi. Congress is against the Ambedkar ideals. BJP as long as in power won’t let anybody touch the reservation.”
Before filing his nomination, Fadnavis held a roadshow in his constituency. The Maharashtra assembly elections are set for November 20, with counting on November 23. The main contest is between the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress.
Both alliances are intensifying their preparations as the election dates approach. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP has released its first list of candidates, with Ajit Pawar contesting from Baramati. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44.
A crucial meeting was held in Delhi with Home Minister Amit Shah and leaders of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, to resolve seat allocation issues. The parties agreed to swap some seats, with the BJP expected to leave certain seats for the NCP, and Eknath Shinde conceding some seats contested by Shiv Sena in 2019. Most seats were agreed upon, with a few remaining undecided, to be finalized in Mumbai.
