The Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) has announced the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup, set to take place from January 13-19, 2025, at New Delhi’s IGI Stadium. This event marks a significant milestone for the traditional Indian sport, now reaching a global audience.

Participating Nations

Twenty-four countries from six continents will compete. From Africa, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda will participate. Asia will see India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea, and Sri Lanka. Europe will have England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland. North America will be represented by Canada and the USA, South America by Brazil and Peru, and Oceania by Australia and New Zealand.

Competition Structure

The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s divisions, with 16 teams in each. The men’s teams include strong contenders from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The women’s teams will see participation from Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and Oceania.

KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal expressed excitement, stating, “This historic championship represents a massive leap for Kho Kho, transforming it from a beloved local sport to a global phenomenon.” General Secretary MS Tyagi added, “The participation of 24 nations is a testament to Kho Kho’s growing international appeal.”

The official tagline #TheWorldGoesKho was unveiled at Thyagraj Stadium, where an exhibition match saw Team Maharashtra narrowly defeat the Rest of India 26-24.
