Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara Discusses ED Summons and Political Allegations
In Bengaluru, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara addressed the recent summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officers. He emphasized that it is too early to draw conclusions as the investigation is ongoing. Parameshwara urged patience as the ED conducts its inquiries and gathers feedback.
On Friday, it was confirmed that the ED summoned six MUDA employees for questioning. These employees are scheduled for interrogation at the ED’s zonal office in Bengaluru and have been asked to bring relevant documents. The investigation seeks evidence related to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other officials. This follows a money-laundering case filed against Siddaramaiah, prompted by a First Information Report (FIR) from the state Lokayukta concerning the MUDA.
The FIR names Siddaramaiah, his wife BM Parvathi, his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraju, from whom Swamy bought land later gifted to Parvathi. The ED is using the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in its investigation, allowing them to summon individuals and potentially seize assets. Siddaramaiah has denied the allegations, claiming political persecution, and has refused to resign, with support from his party despite BJP’s demands for his resignation.
Parameshwara also commented on the NDA’s fielding of Nikhil Kumaraswamy and allegations that Congress lacked a competent candidate for Channapatna, leading to the recruitment of former BJP leader C.P. Yogeshwara. He clarified that Yogeshwara, a former Congress MLA, returned to the party voluntarily. Parameshwara stated, “We are only concerned about how to win that constituency, and we will work on those lines.”
