Himachal Pradesh CM Advocates for Special Agreement for Hilly States
On October 24, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with NITI Aayog officials in New Delhi to discuss the unique needs of hilly states. He emphasized the importance of a “special agreement” for these regions, highlighting Himachal Pradesh’s role as the “lungs of northern India” and advocating for a Green Bonus for its forest conservation efforts.
During the meeting with NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery, member VK Paul, and a panel of experts, CM Sukhu requested a study of Himachal Pradesh’s specific needs. He urged the NITI Aayog to advocate for the state’s rightful share of hydro power project royalties and stressed the importance of improved air and rail connectivity.
CM Sukhu also addressed challenges such as natural calamities and rising cancer cases in the state, calling for a detailed study to find solutions. The Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog assured that a panel of experts would examine the issues raised by the state.
Key attendees included CPS Sunder Singh Thakur, Principal Advisor to the CM Ram Subhag Singh, and senior state government officials.
