Saad Ahmad Warraich Honors Sufi Saint at New Delhi Shrine
On October 23, Saad Ahmad Warraich, the Charge d’Affaires of Pakistan to India, visited the shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Aulia in New Delhi. He laid a traditional chaddar on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan. Warraich was accompanied by 75 Pakistani Zaireen who traveled to India for the 721st Urs celebrations of the revered Sufi saint.
The group was welcomed by Sajjadah Nasheen Dewan Tahir Nizami at the Dargah, a site known for its spiritual significance. After laying the chaddar, they engaged in dua, praying for their country’s progress and prosperity. They also visited the nearby Dargah of Hazrat Amir Khusro, a notable figure in Sufi history.
During the ceremony, the Sajjadah Nasheen performed the dastaarbandi, a traditional turban ceremony, for Warraich and the leader of the Zaireen group. Warraich highlighted the role of Sufi saints in promoting universal brotherhood, love, and tolerance, aligning with Islam’s core principles. The visit of the Pakistani Zaireen, from October 19-25, is part of the 1974 India-Pakistan Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines, showcasing cultural exchanges and mutual respect between the nations.
