In Hyderabad, Pakistan, activists are voicing concerns over the lack of arrests in the case of Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar’s murder. Dr. Kunbhar was killed in Mirpurkhas city on September 19, allegedly for sharing blasphemous posts on social media. After his death, a mob set his body on fire. The ‘Justice For Dr. Shahnawaz Kumbhar Committee’, led by Ismail Wassan, is pushing for justice, resisting extremism, and demanding punishment for those involved, including police officers and extremists.

Activists Speak Out

Ismail Wassan emphasized Sindh’s history of peace and the need to resist extremism. Riaz Ali Chandio, chairperson of Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Riaz), questioned why the culprits remain free and criticized plans to build new canals over the Indus River. Dr. Niaz Kalani accused the Pakistan People’s Party government of complicity with extremist forces. Prof. Mushtaq Mirani held the Sindh government responsible for failing to prevent the murder and subsequent burning of Dr. Kunbhar’s body.

Demands for Justice

The activists are calling for a judicial commission to investigate the incident and recommend punishments. They also demand the arrest of those named in the FIR and the suspension of certain officials. The Committee urges PPP chairman Bilawal to take action against party members who supported the accused.
