Dubai’s Carbon Emissions Drop by 29%
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum Leads the Way
Dubai, UAE – Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), led the 84th virtual meeting of the Council. The meeting, attended by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of DSCE, focused on reviewing the annual carbon emissions inventory, which showed a 29% reduction. This achievement is part of Dubai’s strategy to cut carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
Dubai is recognized globally for its efforts in controlling emissions through various programs and projects by entities like Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Municipality, EGA, ENOC Group, Dubai Petroleum, and the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).
Future Plans and Strategies
Al Tayer emphasized the Council’s commitment to the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050. The Council plans to establish a regulatory framework to ensure the success of ongoing projects in solar energy, water and electricity conservation, green mobility, and operational efficiency.
The Council also approved a program to involve the private sector in developing electric vehicle charging stations, enhancing infrastructure across Dubai.
Data Collection and Performance
Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Council, highlighted that Dubai has been collecting carbon emissions data since 2013, comparing it with annual reduction targets. The meeting was attended by key figures like Dawood Al Hajri, Abdulla bin Kalban, Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Juan-Pablo Freile, and Muna Al Osaimi.
