On October 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined other world leaders at the Kazan Expo Center in Russia for the 16th BRICS Summit. A family photo was taken with Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM Modi, and Chinese President Xi Jinping among others. The BRICS group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE.

After the photo session, PM Modi and UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were seen interacting. The summit’s Plenary Session began with an address by President Putin. Later, PM Modi was scheduled to meet President Xi Jinping for a bilateral discussion, marking their first formal interaction in five years.

This meeting follows an agreement between India and China to resume regular patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the bilateral meeting, highlighting the importance of the agreement reached after extensive discussions with Chinese officials.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian also confirmed the resolution of the border conflict and emphasized ongoing communication through diplomatic and military channels. The meeting between PM Modi and President Xi is expected to be significant for India-China relations, focusing on the LAC agreement and trade discussions.
