New Initiative for Rural Empowerment
On October 24, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will unveil a new initiative at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, aimed at providing daily weather forecasts to Gram Panchayats across India. This collaboration between the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the India Meteorological Department will offer 5-day forecasts and hourly updates.
Benefits for Farmers and Villagers
The initiative is designed to empower rural communities by enhancing disaster preparedness and supporting sustainable agricultural practices. Farmers will receive updates on temperature, rainfall, wind speed, and cloud cover, aiding in crucial agricultural decisions like sowing and harvesting.
Tools and Training
Weather forecasts will be accessible through digital platforms such as e-GramSwaraj, the Meri Panchayat app, and Gram Manchitra. A training workshop will be held to educate over 200 participants, including Panchayati Raj representatives, on utilizing these tools effectively.
Building Climate-Resilient Communities
This initiative is part of the Government’s 100 Days Agenda, focusing on strengthening local governance and climate resilience. SMS alerts will notify Panchayat representatives of extreme weather events, ensuring timely action to protect lives and property.
