HPCL Introduces New Eco-Friendly Fuel in Visakhapatnam

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has launched a new type of fuel called Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This fuel is designed to meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) new rules that started on January 1, 2020, which require ships to use fuel with a maximum of 0.5% sulphur content.

Launch Event

The launch event took place on January 2, 2020, and was attended by HPCL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mukesh Kumar Surana, along with other top officials like Vinod S Shenoy and Rakesh Misri. The first batch of this new fuel was produced in December 2019 at HPCL’s Visakh Refinery.

Environmental Impact

HPCL’s VLSFO helps shipping companies comply with the new sulphur emission regulations. The fuel meets international standards, including the Residual Marine Grade (RMG) 0.50 Specification and ISO 8217:2017. HPCL is committed to environmental protection and is also working on producing cleaner transport fuels and expanding its refineries.

HPCL’s Operations

HPCL operates major refineries in Visakhapatnam and Mumbai and is expanding its capacity. It also has a joint venture refinery in Punjab and is building a new refinery in Rajasthan. HPCL owns India’s largest lube refinery and has an extensive pipeline network and marketing infrastructure.
