On October 14, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke at the India Energy Forum CERAWeek Summit in New Delhi, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring energy security for India. She highlighted the importance of using environmentally friendly energy sources.

Transition to Renewable Energy

The summit, held from October 13 to 15, was organized with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It provided a platform to discuss sustainable and affordable energy solutions. Sitharaman mentioned the shift from coal-based thermal units to renewable energy sources, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of meeting basic energy needs for all Indians.

Achievements and Investor-Friendly Environment

The government has successfully provided electricity to 12 crore families and LPG gas cylinders to 8 crore households. Sitharaman also discussed efforts to create a more investor-friendly environment by reducing regulatory mechanisms and implementing a cooperative tax cut, lowering corporate tax rates from 30% to 22%.

Amendments are being made to the Company Act to focus on compliance rather than punishment, further enhancing India’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
