Bengaluru’s Kendriya Vihar Residents Rescued by NDRF Amid Heavy Rain
In Bengaluru, Karnataka, residents of the Kendriya Vihar apartment complex in Yelahanka faced severe waterlogging due to heavy rains. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) used boats to evacuate the residents. An NDRF official reported that 2,000 to 3,000 people were trapped in one part of the complex, with another 200 to 300 stranded elsewhere. Three NDRF teams, comprising around 50 officials, successfully carried out the rescue operations. The water levels have since decreased, and the NDRF continues to monitor the situation.
Residents expressed the need for a permanent solution, as they have been dealing with these issues for the past two weeks. One resident highlighted the challenges faced by families with small children.
The Janata Dal Secular criticized Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for their governance, pointing out the city’s infrastructure problems. They highlighted incidents like a physically challenged woman falling into a pothole during the rains.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for more heavy rainfall in South Interior and coastal Karnataka from October 23 to October 26.
