On Police Smriti Diwas, observed on October 21, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a Rs 100 crore allocation for police housing in the next financial year. This day honors 10 policemen who died in a 1959 ambush by Chinese troops. At the Shaheed Smarak in Dehradun, CM Dhami paid tribute to police and paramilitary personnel.

He also announced increased allowances for the Uttarakhand Police, including a Rs 100 rise in the nutritious diet allowance, a Rs 3,500 increase in the uniform allowance for Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and a high altitude allowance increase from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day for personnel stationed above 9,000 feet.

CM Dhami emphasized the critical role of police in maintaining national security and law and order. He noted that 216 police and paramilitary personnel were killed in the line of duty last year, including four from Uttarakhand. He praised the police for their courage in facing challenges like terrorism and natural disasters.

He highlighted Uttarakhand’s strategic importance and the police’s role in tackling issues like drug abuse, cybercrime, and crime against women. A three-tier anti-narcotics force aims to make Uttarakhand drug-free by 2025, and significant narcotics seizures have been made.

Efforts to improve police infrastructure include constructing 380 houses and administrative buildings, purchasing 1105 police vehicles, and providing accident insurance for police personnel. Recruitment for 222 sub-inspector posts and 2000 constables is underway, with plans to recruit skilled players under the Uttarakhand Sports Policy.
